One of the challenges of the past tense is learning the pronunciation of the -ed endings of regular verbs. With basic students in mind, I offer a timely activity about hopes and wishes. If you choose to make use of it in January rather than December, you can easily modify the questions at the end so that they are logical. Like many, I find the start of a new year to be time of reflection and evaluation. Hopefully, your students will enjoy the activity and gain more confidence using the simple past tense in their speech. Here is the Hopes and Wishes_handout.
